How to Choose the Right Escape Room
A Guide for First-Timers and Enthusiasts

Choosing the right escape room can make or break your experience. Whether you’re planning a fun night with friends, a corporate team-building event, or a unique date, selecting the perfect escape room is key to ensuring an enjoyable, memorable time.

1. Know Your Group’s Experience Level
Escape rooms vary in difficulty. If you’re new to escape rooms, start with beginner-friendly rooms that offer clear clues and a higher success rate. Enthusiasts may prefer advanced escape rooms with complex puzzles and immersive themes. We list the difficulty level and success rates of all of our games on our site.

If you’re new to escape rooms, try Amazon Survival, King Tut’s Curse or Appalachian Outlaw first. They’re certainly not easy, but the game play was designed to help players who haven’t played a lot of games before.

2. Pick a Theme That Excites You
Themes range from haunted houses and prison breaks to spy missions and treasure hunts. Choosing a theme that resonates with your group enhances engagement and makes the experience more fun. Look for well-reviewed escape rooms with immersive storytelling and high-quality set design.

At Escape Tactic, we never use haunted, scary or gory themes. Nothing wrong with that if it’s what you’re into, but – for us – they weren’t the kind of games we wanted to create.

3. Consider the Group Size and Booking Options
Check the recommended group size for the room. Some escape rooms are designed for 2–4 players, while ours accommodate groups of up to 10 players per room. Private bookings ensure your group has the room to yourselves, while public bookings may mix groups together.

You can reserve a private game with us when you book 6+ guests and check the “private event” box during checkout. Plus, you can add more players to your game if you have them in your group!

4. Read Reviews and Ratings
Look for escape rooms with strong Google, Yelp, or TripAdvisor reviews. User feedback can give insight into puzzle quality, staff friendliness, and overall experience. Keywords like “best escape rooms near me” or “top-rated escape rooms in [your city]” can help with your search.

Be on the lookout for new facilities that have thousands of 5-star reviews already. Sadly, it’s too easy now to buy fake reviews. Not only does that violate Google’s review policy, it’s plain dishonest. We want no part of it.

5. Check for Safety and Accessibility
Make sure the facility follows safety protocols, especially for younger players or those with mobility concerns. Reputable venues post safety guidelines on their websites.

For Escape Tactic, all of our games are wheelchair accessible except for part of Amazon Survival that would be restrictive to those with mobility concerns.
